Friends and Collaborators Mourn the Loss of Director Lynn Shelton: ‘She Was Only Just Getting Started’
Lynn Shelton, the beloved indie film director who also helmed mainstream TV programs like “Little Fires Everywhere,” “Mad Men” and “Glow,” tragically died on Friday. Her publicist cited a previously unknown blood disorder as the cause of death. She was 54.

Shelton made her directorial debut at the Sundance Film Festival in 2006 with “We Go Way Back” but it was her second feature film, “Humpday,” starring Mark Duplass and Joshua Leonard, that opened up doors for the Seattle native. She would later reunite with Duplass on “Your Sister’s Sister,” led by Emily Blunt and Rosemarie Dewitt, and also worked with Duplass on the drama “Outside In,” while Dewitt would pair up with Shelton again in 2013’s “Touchy Feely.”

‘Space Force’: Steve Carell’s ‘Office’ Reunion Drops New Trailer, 10-Episode Podcast Plan
One “Space Force” is almost ready to launch. The Steve Carell-starring Netflix comedy has unveiled a second trailer that shows off more of what the actor and Greg Daniels (of “The Office” fame) have up their sleeve.

The series is described as a workplace comedy following a decorated pilot with dreams of joining the Air Force. Unfortunately, as the new trailer shows, General Mark R. Naird (Carell) ends up accidentally launching a rocket and is “rewarded” with heading up Space Force, the government’s attempt to colonize space. Naird becomes responsible for a ragtag group of scientists and civilians, including his “science guy,” Bill (John Malkovich), all with the hopes of pulling off a successful new feat — or, at least, not a catastrophic failure.

The trailer highlights not just Carell and Malkovich but also Lisa Kudrow and Diana Silvers as Mark’s wife and daughter, respectively. Jimmy O. Yang

British author and screenwriter Neil Gaiman has apologized after being reprimanded by Scottish police for traveling from New Zealand to the Scottish island of Skye — a journey that has rattled residents of the 10,000-strong community who have been trying to self-isolate.

Police Scotland confirmed to Variety that the “American Gods” author had been approached by local officers on Sunday after Gaiman detailed his late April trip from Auckland to the Scottish island — which included two flights and a lengthy drive — in a May 14 blog post. Gaiman wrote of flying “masked and gloved” halfway around the world: “Both flights were surreal,

Netflix Defends Depiction of Prosecutor Linda Fairstein in ‘When They See Us’ Lawsuit

Netflix Defends Depiction of Prosecutor Linda Fairstein in ‘When They See Us’ Lawsuit
Netflix has fired back at former New York prosecutor Linda Fairstein, defending its villainous depiction of her in “When They See Us.”

Fairstein filed a defamation lawsuit against the Netflix and director Ava DuVernay in March, alleging that she was portrayed in “When They See Us” as a racist prosecutor hellbent on locking up innocent men. She argued she was depicted using racially inflammatory language that she would never use, and that her career as a public speaker and legal consultant had been ruined.

In a motion to dismiss the suit filed on Monday, Netflix argued that the characterization was substantially true,
